Piano Productivity Tip #3 – The 66 Day Challenge

A great motivational book recommended to me by my virtuoso piano teacher, Josh Wright, is “Atomic Habits” which introduced me to the “66 day challenge.”

This wonderful challenge can be applied to anything that you would like to get better at doing.

At my piano, I have applied this challenge to getting myself on a streak of doing anything from experimenting with the playing of a new genre of music to music memorization challenges. The customizable challenge sheet can be downloaded, laminated, and placed anywhere visible for you.

Soon, I will be inviting my students to take on a 66 day memorization challenge of a piece that they love to play and would like to learn to play more effortlessly from memory.

In the memoir of virtuoso pianist, Carol Rosenberger, when she was recovering from polio and was coached by Nadia Boulanger, she says that Nadia encouraged her to memorize even a few measures a day.

Is there a piece of music to which you would like to apply this challenge?
